Vita Respite Program
Respite programs provide a short term planned break for families from the daily care and support of their family member who is 16 years or older and has a developmental disability or dual diagnosis, including physical, psychiatric or behavioural challenges. There are many reasons why you might need a break from caring for your loved one and Vita provides various short-term stay options for your family member.
If you plan a weekend getaway, a vacation, or you need time to recuperate following an illness Vita can provide temporary residential support.
We offer a private bedroom with 24-hour staff support on site in several Vita group homes across the GTA and York Region.
March Break & Summer Program
March Break programs (age 16-21) are also available at our day services, offering a variety of recreational activities, such as: swimming, bowling, arts and crafts, and cooking and/or baking classes.
School year is ending and you are at odds wishing for more options (some options are restricted to 18 +) during summer months? Come to Vita and we will plan a summer respite with your family member. Summer day camp (age 16-21), weekends away to a cottage on a lake, or a week long stay on a beach are some of the options available. Vacation getaways are not only reserved for summer months, we also plan trips south during cold weather - vacations in the Caribbean, Florida, and other warm destinations are within your reach. Cost of vacation packages varies depending on the length of the trip, destination and staff support required.
Day Respite Program
If you wish to attend a class or you just need some time to yourself, Vita will provide you with flexible respite options throughout the week or weekends, during the day, in the evenings or overnight. Day respite is offered from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm with an option of extended hours until 6:00 pm. Some of the activities offered during the day range from various themed activities, fun music classes, health and wellness classes, baking and cooking activities, to trips to local attractions and various outdoor activities (i.e. hiking).
Cost of the Program
Respite program cost depends on the type of program chosen as well as the level of support your family member needs. Generally, participation in small group (sharing one staff with 4 other people) day activities cost $35.00 per day.
